Update: Search and Rescue Dog Remembered in Mexico
In my recent article Search and Rescue and Moles and Dogs, I noted that one of the search and rescue dogs deployed to Turkey had died in the rescue efforts there. Here is a brief update on that dog, whose name was Proteo:
The body of Proteo was recently flown back to Mexico. The Ministry of National Defense, Ministry of Navy, Foreign Ministry, and the Mexican Red Cross held a ceremony in remembrance of their fallen partner.
In the city of Tlalnepantla, State of Mexico (which is one of the 32 states in Mexico; it surrounds Mexico City, but Mexico City is not part of the State of Mexico), the urban artist Croms Akopa was commissioned to honor Proteo with the mural shown above.
Proteo, born June 16, 2013, was just over 9-1/2 years old when he died.
Descanse en paz, Proteo.
