That mouth that inhales cuarto de libra con queso is one of a Prophet. Tonight I start my writing class and my first self-appointed assignment is to develop my Substack intro and tagline!!!! You have been an inspiration for me. Stayed tuned!
A little birdy told me you reached a Substack milestone. Congrats! Bows
It’s a short-ish drive from Oaxaca City, which itself has many things to see and do. Hope you get to Tule one day, Victor. Be well, and thanks for the comment!
I enjoyed reading this particular story of you and Ms Tule. Yes, I believe Ms Tule is a she although some believe she is a they. This was a great way to begin my day - a great accompaniment to my Mc Donald's coffee from yesterday. (Do not judge me!) I do have to admit I lost a few brain cells while reading about Ms Tule. I laughed out loud at your quips til I ran out of breath. And, then I sobered up from my dopamine hit. It deeply irks me the Catholic church built its spiritually colonizing edifices on indigenous scared grounds but the last laugh is on them: Indigenous person thinking: "A Virgin Mother Mary? Oh, they (the Catholics) must mean (fill in the blank with an indigenous goddess). Sure, we have some songs whose melody can be used in your church ceremonies". For example, Tonantzin, the Aztec goddess of the earth and corn (Nahuatl for “our mother”) was who indigenous people imaged the Virgin of Guadalupe to be. But I digress geographically. I wish I had been a chapulin on the wall when the people of Oaxaca started to listen to the Catholic priests or better yet if I had entered their minds as they reconciled thousands of years of spiritual beliefs and Spain's brand of manifest destiny. I cry for my own colonized mind.
I have also met Ms Tule and I do have a reverence for the Virgin of Guadalupe.
I do not have a poem for you, Mike but I will share my favorite prayer to the Virgen of Guadalupe
Holy Mother, Virgen of Guadalupe, you who conceived without sinning, help me sin without conceiving.
A fun read; The Aztec Virgen - The Secret Mystical Tradition of our Lady of Guadalupe by John Mini 2000
I won't judge your McDonald's coffee if you don't judge my cuarto de libra con queso (quarter pounder with cheese). Thanks for the comment Elva - you should start a Substack of all your comments!
I’ve been to that tree! It’s amazing and the church and area around it are also interesting if I recall correctly. Fun to see a photo of a place I’ve been. ❤️
Yes, transportation is an issue. When I lived in the city of Oaxaca, we would have to fly to Huatulco and Puerto Escondido because the land route took so long. I've heard they have put in some more highways though.

Looking forward to it! As far as milestones go, I count getting out of bed among the most significant of my accomplishments.
Well now you make me want to take a bus and go see the great tree. The photos are inspiring, it's bound to be more awesome in person! Thanks Mike!

You should write the poem.
I will buy you a notebook if you agree to write it
Trees are the best!
Agreed - they are pretty awesome!

Yeah, I found the grounds around the church and the entire plaza pretty relaxing. Glad you got to experience it!
