Thanks, MPE. Seems like Mexico's dentists don't have to worry about lining up patients. Well, at least in the places where the English speakers like to go.
Yes, why would dental care, which can have huge consequences for your health, be included in health care....I just don't know what I was thinking! I so enjoy your point of view and your humor, thank you for the fun learning!
I swear I feel like there are too many dentist offices in my neighbourhood. A whole city is crazy!! Also Canada is slowly moving towards dental care, right now it's more focused towards on seniors and children. But on another note I hate going to the dentists, uncomfortable experience and a waste of time for my day.
Thank you, Fahim, for the update on Canada! And I agree - a trip to the dentist isn't the best way to spend a day. Or a morning. But at least here in Mexico, I can make an appointment on Monday and be in on Tuesday. So nice!
I didn't know the name of the town, Mike. But so many people would go to the border area to have their teeth fixed. The only place I knew that was also big (I guess) was Juarez. We'd crossed there once when we were still driving, and our friend who lived in Santa Fe,NM said a lot of Santa Fe folks would cross over for dental work. Amazing, no? In Cancun, there are some very good dentists. Our engineer's sister has been in practice for decades now. She's good. Great article!
Thank you, Jeanine! Yes, Juarez and Tijuana and other border towns have their share of practitioners serving gringos who live across the fence (wall?). Glad you like your dentist, I really like mine, too! And the whole process just seems so much easier here - at least from a scheduling perspective.
Oh, yes. Dental care in Mexico is much more affordable. I have a good dentist. He and his crew keep me tuned. I had two implants done, which in the states would have meant first robbing a bank, but I'm no longer a bank robber and besides, I'm in Mexico where the dentists are indeed a lot more reasonable. Thankfully.... Great article Mike!
Thank you, Victor. Glad you have a good dentist who doesn't encourage your bank robbing tendencies. If I ever win the loteria, I might go to a U.S. dentist again. But then again, why would I? My dentist is also great, and I can actually schedule appointments! So yeah, I'll just hang on to my lottery money and skip the US dentist...
I love “people in the U.S. and Canada who lack dental insurance yet have teeth” and “ this is why we have blenders people”! Love the humor amidst the helpful practical information. ❤️
lol - it does sound cute! It literally means "the cotton plants", but I don't believe there are any cotton fields there -so the origin of the name is a mystery. Yeah, you can go there and have a different dentist work on each tooth - fun!
This is such a good case study! Not as common, but I know Brits who make their way here too for dental reasons.
My dad comes for his knee tendon, he has bandy legs and the NHS only gives him Naproxen. Medican tourism for the win!

no wonder my insurance has been trying to push blenders on me lately 🤔
lol - yes, there is a logic to their madness 😉

And thank you for the fun commenting, Michelle. As for health insurance, yup - it would just be so much easier if we didn't have mouths.

Thanks Christy, I also like keeping it light. Takes the edge off of thinking about having to floss.
Algodones makes it sound so cute! Must take a trip there and get all my teeth sorted...

Either that or it's named after cotton swabs which would be 0% romantic or sweet 😂
