I wish I could have been the proverbial (fire)fly on the wall when you were sleuthing for this information. I can only be more grateful to have dual citizenship.

You sure are a wealth of info and have a fun way of presenting it Mike. Yay! I came to Mexico on an FM2 that I started in the states and finished up what I arrived. After a couple of renewals they said I could either become a permanent resident. Or leave. So we did that process which was fairly painless. I did need to take a car I had here back to states.
Thanks Victor. Glad that you chose to stay 😀. Nationalizing a car is a whole can of worms itself: lots or requirements related to NAFTA, importation taxes that can exceed the cars worth, etc. I might write an article about it, but I get a headache just thinking about it 😉
Yeah, the car was just a little too old, outside the allowed range. Found a guy in Nuevo Laredo who said he could make it happen but it smelled wrong. The regs were quite clear. I had a real fun trip driving back up to the Seattle area though.

We do love to complicate things! Thanks for the comment, Elva!
