Beautiful article and a nice metaphor for Mexico itself. I love museums in houses and that provide a snapshot of real life lived. A definite must see!

wondering about the connection of Frida as a symbol outside of Mexico too... what is the relationship between commercialization and perseverance of Mexican culture (at least as symbol)? Is there one? feels like tricky territory. Good article tho.

The commercialization of Frida Kahlo is certainly an interesting topic to delve into. It takes effort to separate Kahlo the artist from Kahlo the image (the fact that she produced so many self-portraits exacerbates this). The how and why she became such a commercial phenomenon (posthumously) is maybe something I should write about one day. I also find her politics interesting, and a less explored subject. On the other hand, I'd also like to write about tomato farming. Decisions...

I concur with what others have shared. Please, allow me to reflect back phrases that filled my spiritual cracks like Kintsugi, the Japanese process of repairing ceramics traditionally with lacquer and gold, leaving a gold seam where the cracks were.
