This was very eye-opening! And heart warming, as added to the benefits of Latin America in my opinion, is the culture. My experience of Latin American culture is it being very warm and community oriented. I think the more we consider taking care of our neighbors and valuing community versus thinking primarily as an individual and valuing the idea of getting ahead of everyone else, the better we will fair and be positioned to solve climate challenges. Time to take a deeper look into Latin America!

Amen Christy! Well said - we need to take some lessons from how the people of Latin America approach the world and each other. Thank you for the inspiring comment!

I'm already learning Spanish, how great! There are so many things that I culturally align with more in Latin America than in Los Estados Unidos, and I'm glad to see more balance coming into the world. Here's hoping it's in time for that balance to be meaningful! New Zealand is over 80% renewable energy, so between most of Latin American and Costa Rica (well behind the amazing 100% there!!! fun new fact for me)!

Great that you're learning Spanish - maybe you can help me! And yes, New Zealand is doing great with green energy with 80% of their electricity coming from renewable sources. I think I should have said Oceana instead of New Zealand - I need to stop typing so fast ;-) Thank you for reading, and the comments!

Very interesting article. Thanks for sharing!

It made me wonder if the abundance of natural resources and control of them may have had anything to do with all the CIA coups that have been attempted in LatAm since the 50’s.

Potential reason for the IMF games that have been played across LatAm as well?

Curious to hear your thoughts. Saludos!

Hi San Pancho Life - interesting observations. For sure I believed that the US-backed CIA misadventures in LatAm were all about controlling resources, with a good deal of ideological bent as an important motivator as well. I've been reading more recently specifically about the CIA-backed Pinochet regime in Chile - a truly shameful episode of US history that no one talks about much.

I don't know as much about the motivations behind the IMF's manipulations in LatAm. Of course, (most) everything comes down to money and resources, so I'm sure that resources is a part of it.

Thanks for your comment, and for reading!

Thanks Mike. I’ll look for something worth sending about the IMF’s debt games in developing countries. I can’t think of a specific article or resource at the moment.

Every time I read one of your articles, I get a renewed sense of hope for Latin America and the world in general*

And I've taken your advice to learn Spanish. Well, I hope so anyway. Still learning :) Thanks Mike!

LOL on the footnote! Yes, I do get a sense of hope for Latin America too. It is strange though - because it is still a region that many are fleeing from due to security concerns and lack of opportunities. As you know, I focus on the positive in Mexico (and now Latin America) since there is already a wealth of resources for bad news. I don't want to paint an inaccurate picture, but I do believe there is a lot of good happening in the Latin world. It deserves to be highlighted.

Thank you for your kind words, and for reading, and for making me laugh :-)
