(Spoiler Alert - I am bi-lingual and bi-cultural)

Mike, please, check my Enclosed Inventory below to see if any words arrived having broken themselves

* Smiles breaking on my face (me sonreí - I smiled myself):"time=share cartel"; "(and I use the word "article" here very generously) "

* OMGs: "'quantum decoherence' and 'mass-energy equivalence'"

* Audible Chuckles: " (I read somewhere that there are people who don't drink coffee. I don't know if this is true - it sounds pretty outlandish"

* True Appreciation for Self-deprecating humor: "to prevent you from falling asleep while reading this next section"; "But I digress."

* Outrage: "the cat would come by and knock it right off" (I have two cats!)

* Disbelief: How one broken glass broke your heart and inspired the Inner Writer. I did not know you spoke a third language - "Just slow 'er down, there, pardner."

* Serious Soul Satisfaction: "I thought I'd look at personal responsibility through the lens of language" "Your conclusion fell into a paradoxical trap that I have cleverly hidden from both sight and reason." And, my fellow readers' comments below!

Love the concept of Kintsugi Skye, Scotch and Soda Bob, having to visit and experience other cultures to know ours better Michelle, and the connection of mindset and language Christy!

Loved this on on levels-examination of grammar/language, personal responsibility, and the humor! Blaming others v accepting the things which are is a deep topic in itself.

Now, I wonder if you’re familiar with Kintsugi. 🤔

Well Mikey, very interesting essay! But I think you missed the entire point of personal responsibility. The real question is "Who is going to clean up the damn mess, with coffee all over the floor". Sorry I'm the guy who no longer drinks coffee, so I'm not worried about broken cups. But don't mess with my Scotch and soda! ;-}

Personal responsibility is so very cultural and I had no idea how much it is until I experienced other cultures. Thank you for the insights and the giggles.

This is a particularly fun and funny one, Mike! I agree language is powerful and can influence our mindset without us realizing it...

Oh yes Mike, I've had this very conversation with others when it comes to the way Spanish works in these cases. Very interesting. And the cups, including the broken one are from 2 years ago. What about new shipments? Hopefully more secure.

Fun article! And I was going to say something else but se me olvidó.

Very nicely written :) I see a different analogy here as well - we, humans, are like those cups. We need to be careful where we stand because if we don't we may end up breaking ourselves. It won't be anyone's fault.
